Ring Making Workshop
Making your own wedding rings is the perfect way to make your rings even more special and personal to you.
What better way to demonstrate your love for each other than lovingly and carefully crafting the rings you intend to exchange?
Our Houghton Le Spring Workshop, located between Durham and Sunderland, is well equipped to provide a hands-on experience that you will enjoy and remember for years to come.
What will the day include?
The day will last between six and eight hours. It’s a relaxed sessions where we go at your pace and after a day’s hard work we celebrate with a glass of Prosecco and a toast to the happy couple!
1
A brief consultation
The process starts with a free, no-obligation consultation to get an understanding of what kind of rings you would like. We’ll want to understand the width and the profile, the metal type and measure fingers. This is done in advance via a face to face or virtual consultation so we can provide you with an accurate price for your rings before you book your course.
2
Making Your Rings
Under the watchful eye of our master jeweller you will create a beautiful ring for yourself or your partner. Depending upon the materials involved you will be casting, forming, rolling, sawing, soldering and polishing to turn raw materials into rings to cherish. Don’t worry if you’ve never done anything like this before or you think you’re ‘not good with your hands’, our professional jeweller (and master ring maker) will be on hand every step of the way to help, advise and if necessary provide hands on assistance with any part you find a little too tricky.
3
Celebrating
After a memorable day of creating your very own wedding bands in our Sunderland wedding ring workshop you’ll be happy to celebrate the occasion with a glass of Prosecco and a toast to the happy couple!
Our aim for the day is that you’ll create beautiful rings that will last a lifetime but just as importantly that you’ll have a wonderful time doing it and a memory to treasure too.
How much will it cost?
A workshop normally lasts between six and eight hours (We will go at a pace that suits you) and the cost is £125 per person plus materials & hallmarking.
The cost of each ring will vary depending upon the type of metal you choose and the dimensions and size of each ring. The actual cost will be calculated following your free consultation & will be confirmed before you sign up for the course.
What will you learn?
This ring making workshop won’t just give you a pair of rings to adore, you’ll also learn a few techniques such as:
- How to thread and use a piercing saw to cut metal
- How to use a jewellers bench peg
- How to size a ring correctly
- How to anneal and pickle metal
- How to solder a ring
- How to finish your ring ready for wear
What To Expect When You Book Your Workshop Spaces
Once you enquire with us regarding our ring making workshop day, we’ll drop you an email to confirm the date and start time of your course along with details of our address. If you need directions or help arranging over-night accommodation please let us know – we’ll be happy to help with advice and recommendations.
Our ring making workshop day is a ‘hands on’ experience so please don’t wear your best clothes (polishing rings can be a dirty business) and if you have long hair please bring something to tie it back.
When you arrive at the workshop you will be greeted by Graham (our master jeweller). He will give you a tour of the workshop and explain how the day will be organised.
Tea & coffee will be provided throughout the day. If you wish please feel free to bring some non-alcoholic cold refreshments with you too.
There will be a break for lunch. Houghton Le Spring town centre has a fair selection of pubs, cafes and sandwich shops to choose from and is only a short walk away. Alternatively, you are welcome to bring a picnic or packed lunch with you to eat at the workshop.
When your rings are complete we’ll raise a glass of something to celebrate.
Most of all expect to have a lovely day!
